Full Moon in Cancer – Foreshadowing a deeper and more intense change

I don't know about you and in your life, but the last few days have seemed to me to be pretty intense. We have just been through a very difficult moment as Mercury stationed retrograde while activating the big aspect of 2021, the Saturn square to Uranus. This brought back issues from 2021 into focus, and forced us to face matters that we were responsible for, maybe for difficult positions that we had put ourselves in previously? Both Mercury and Venus are now retrograde for pretty much the rest of this month, and we likely find ourselves to be in some kind of roll back situation until they both turn direct – first Venus on 29th January followed by Mercury on 4th February. These will dredge up situations linked to previous decisions and rules activated by the Mercury station, and we may have to deal with previous social contacts or maybe financial issues affected by Venus. All these will have to be considered and reviewed by the end of the month.

This Week in Astrology - 26th July until 1st August 2021 – Flexibility

This week begins rather quietly, and there will be no new aspects on either Monday or Tuesday, and it's only in mid-week when the action will begin. This will see Mercury which has been moving through emotional Cancer shift into brash and bold Leo early on Wednesday 28th July. As it does so, it will immediately pick up on an inconjunct aspect to Jupiter, and here we may have an issue of being too forthright for our own good, before suddenly realising that we have rather overstepped the mark. It is possible that we may have to retract what we say, or express our ideas and feelings in more measured terms. Decisions we make in the heat of the moment we may come to regret, and the landscape will change further later on in the day, as Jupiter moves out of Pisces and back into Aquarius. What started out as a good idea, may end up being a total misjudgement, so be prepared to make last minute changes, if needs be. If you are making a trip today, watch out for unexpected delays, or things going wrong en-route.

This Week in Astrology - 19th to 25th July 2021 – From the shadows into the light

The week begins with a bit of a jolt, as Mercury in Cancer moves today (19th July) into a testing square to Chiron. This could be a moment where our words or decisions come back to haunt us, and we may have to swallow a large chunk of humble pie. You may be on the end of a sharp rebuke, or instead this may be a time of a learning experience as you start to realise the impact of saying something out of turn has had on someone? Sudden matters linked to education, local issues or travel may crop up in the news wires today.

The planets above us now - Opportunity, idealism and danger

Hi everybody. We're in the middle a very interesting set of aspects at this moment in time. First up, Mercury as you'll probably realise is the fastest of all the the inner planets, and it whizzes through all the connections with the other planets at an incredible rate, sometimes these are very fleeting, lasting maybe one day or even less. That's certainly the case when Mercury is moving at full speed, however when the quicksilver planet slows down before a retrograde period, it is moving much slower, and so its influence on us is much greater.

The Jamal Khashoggi disappearance, and the Astrology behind it.

Jamal K

I was working a lot when this scandal broke and so I have taken a while to have a look at the Astrology of what happened on 2nd October 2018 in Istanbul. If you have been living under a bridge and not heard about the situation here is a short appraisal. Jamal Khashoggi was a respected Saudi Arabian journalist and critic of the Saudi kingdom. He lived and worked in the US for the Washington Post. He was in Istanbul and needed to get some papers for his upcoming wedding. While his fiancée paced outside the Saudi Arabian embassy in Istanbul, Jamal Khashoggi entered the Saudi Embassy, and never came out. Speculation is rife what happened to Khashoggi inside the the embassy, but it is assumed that he was brutally murdered.

Mercury Retrograde in Spring 2017 - Feeling the heat of a situation.

Mercury retrograde[3]

Mercury is stationing retrograde in 4 days time on 10th April at 00.14 hrs in London, it'll be the evening of 9th April if you are in the Caribbean or in the Americas. Mercury this time stops at 4.51 degrees Taurus and it will go into retrograde motion until 3rd of May where it stations direct at 24.17 degrees Aries.

Wednesday, 8 June 2016

Mercury opposite to Mars - Releasing the pressure

cooker

Ok everyone, get ready for more fireworks tomorrow as Mars retrograde in Scorpio opposes Mercury in stubborn Taurus. This is going to be a showdown in the fixed signs between the planet of the mind and of communication and the planet of action and aggression, which retrograde in Scorpio is harbouring deep deep resentment and irritation. Mars is not happy retrograde in Scorpio as all that action and anger that is normally allowed to flow in the sign Mars used to rule is being stored up internally. It's like the water bubbling and boiling within a pressure cooker until the pressure reaches it's limit, and then the steam blasts out.

9th June

The opposition here shows potential verbal conflict as old wounds and irritations come to a head and "boom", an explosion occurs. The fixed signs indicate issues coming under pressure that have entrenched positions, neither side wants to move or adjust and so they just snipe insults or fire rockets at each other.

Tomorrow is going to be one of those tricky days, so watch out for verbal battles and disagreements and try and keep your cool. Mercury rules transport and the press too, so transport accidents may occur through too much speed, there may be sensational investigations that break in the press, or there may be fire and/ or mechanical technical faults.

Mercury conjunct to fixed star Menkar - The voices of the many speak as one

sea monster

This connection occurs at 14.33 degrees Taurus, is active now and until 27th May 2106.

This is a longer than normal planet and star connection as Mercury is turning direct on this star, and one that should not be ignored. Menkar is one of the main stars in the constellation of Cetus, the Whale. This is a very difficult and rather nasty constellation, and rather than the peaceful vision of a whale that we normally are accustomed to, this beast from the deep is more like a great sea monster, indeed Cetus depicts the whale that swallowed Jonah. Cetus in Greek mythology was sent to devour Andromeda, the princess who was chained to the rocks, however Perseus saved her by turning the monster to stone with the Medusa's head that he had previously cut off the Gorgon.

Cetus patrolling the deep seas is a threatening figure and it inhabits a region where man rarely ever goes. Like the waters of the oceans, here is great power and uncontrollable force, and the fluid nature of the vast oceans can be compared to the fluctuations and variability of the human collective unconscious. Here we have insight and an ability to tap into what the masses want and need, and yet this star is a difficult influence and it is just as likely to be connected to mayhem, hysteria and collective worry and chaos. With Menkar you can just as much be carried along on a wave of mass adoration as you can be a victim or martyr to the collective's hatred and dislike. Robson's assessment of Menkar is not particularly happy reading. He said "it caused diseases, disgrace, ruin, injury from beasts, sickness, and loss of fortune".

22 may 16

Mercury is the planet of communication and language, of ideas and of transportation and travel, therefore the many will speak as one now, maybe someone will have some insight that can solve a major problem or there will be a revelation that shocks society? Possibly a prominent figure will end up a martyr and in disgrace because of the deeds or words they utter? Now may be a time when you can solve the impossible problem, or an idea will catch the wind and be taken up by many people? This is a connection of fame and fortune, of ruin and disgrace and this time with Mercury trine to Jupiter and Pluto the effects of this important conjunction could have far reaching effects.

The lesson for today and the next few days is to you to trust your intuition now, and maybe you will reap the rewards...

Mercury Retrograde in Taurus – April and May 2016

Mercury retrograde[3]

Hi everyone. I’m just giving the normal warning today about the impending Mercury retrograde that starts tomorrow on the 28th April and lasts until the 22nd May when it stops and turns direct once again.

Now I've found Mercury retrograde to be mildly irritating, a time when complications just get in the way of ordinary life, especially at work, as Mercury in my own chart sits in my 10th house of career. That's where I seem to feel it most and you will find that you will tend to sense things not being as they should or you will get delays, breakdowns, and the same irritations wherever your Mercury lies in your own chart. You may also sense things not going correctly or smoothly in the part of your own chart covered by the degrees 14-23 degrees Taurus, the Retrograde hit zone this time around. You also tend to go over old ground when Mercury starts to move backwards, or meet old friends. As other Astrologers say (and I agree with them) any actions beginning with "Re-" will be more prevalent now, redoing, revisiting, reacquainting, revising, readjusting... etc etc etc

Now the day or two around the station points (tomorrow through 29th April) I find the most potent as Mercury comes to a stop. This is where disruption in life will be the most acute, so look out for travel delays, things breaking or going wrong and misunderstandings happening.

This first station at 23.36 Taurus lands close to the star Capulus in the constellation of Perseus. Capulus is quite a brutal and confrontational star, so look out for verbal attacks and severe criticism in the world around us in the next day or two. Capulus represents the sword of Perseus, so expect arguments and withering criticism against things being cut down or reduced in size, or against what was said or decided previously. There may be transport, educational or service cuts that annoy and disrupt. Personal and society values and what we ourselves hold dear in our own lives (Taurus) are going to be a key theme in the next three weeks.

Mercury conjunct Alhena - Demanding the right to be heard.

gemini

This connection occurs on 20th July at 9.18 degrees Cancer

Mercury has been dominating the astrological news with the shooting down of the Malaysia Airlines aircraft and now it moves on to make a connection with the star Alhena, the star in the heel of one of the twins in Gemini.

This star is called the "Marching One" and it is associated with following a cause or a belief that you are passionate to follow and “march” behind. It is also connected with the celebrated wounded heel, a flaw in one's character. That legend goes back to the beliefs of the Egyptians and their assumption at the solstice and equinox that the Sun god “Ra” touched the earth connecting himself to the physical world and in the process he injured himself.

Now think of what happened in past 24 hours. An aircraft ruled by Gemini was "wounded" in flight and then touched the earth causing damage and hurt. This connection is in Cancer affecting families and nations and now I think those affected will march as one demanding that the truth comes out and that justice is served. This may be especially true as Mercury will oppose Pluto at this moment, the planet of power, control and the ultimate truth. There may be calls to cease this conflict in Ukraine as well, maybe demands to powerful leaders, such as Vladimir Putin to change his tune. At the same time Mars will be in Libra exactly square to the Sun as well as to Jupiter. Libra is a sign of equality and Jupiter represents the law and international events connecting the globe.

I also think that this connection may apply to those affected in the Gaza strip, so don't be surprised to see Palestinian families, maybe women and children standing up to the Israelis who have started a ground invasion there to stop the violence, and to leave them in peace.

Mercury conjunct Murzims - An important announcement is coming

Shouting out loud

This connection occurs between 18th and 19th July at 7.23 degrees Cancer

I am marking your card with this aspect slightly early as I feel that it may hit slightly before the dates above. Murzims is a star in Canis Major the large dog. This star is nicknamed "the Announcer", as it rises before the great star Sirius, the brightest in the night sky and is connected with carrying a message or having something important that others should hear or read, any planet connected to this star will see you encouraged to speak out in some way.

Now Mercury is the planet of communication and so one can safely assume that there is going to be a speech or something said that is going to be highly significant. Mercury rules the media too and so I would expect there to be a big news story about it too. Now Mercury in getting to 7 Cancer will making a trine to Neptune, the planet of spirituality and faith, deception and confusion, also of suffering, sacrifice, inspiration and of the collective.

My instinct is that a religious message is coming either in the Israel Palestine conflict or from ISIS and the Islamic caliphate disturbances, and one that may ask those to make some kind of sacrifice for the whole. Mercury in Cancer would suggest a pro-active message, based around emotion and the past, ownership and family. With Mercury conjunct to Venus, this will be a social message and being opposed to Pluto there may be a subliminal, manipulative or subversive element to it.   I would like to think that there will be a  call for the suffering to stop for good, but this may fall on deaf ears. Lets hope not for humanity’s sake.

On a slightly less controversial note, there could be more stories than normal in the news about young people, transport and travel especially by, on or near water, education, language, health and medical issues.

Keep your eyes open and watch the press, for I feel something significant is coming...

Mercury moves into the sign of Cancer

Mercury retrograde

Mercury has now moved from logical Gemini into the much more emotional and sensitive sign, Cancer and it is going to stay in this sign until 12th August. What does that mean for all of us? Well, there will be a propensity for making decisions more based on what one feels rather than looking at the basic facts. You'll find around the world that people will base their action through emotional reasoning and what is needed to secure one from threat and aggression. The tone of the conversation and how one says it will be much more important now than the content of the words that are actually said. Mercury in Cancer will encourage us take action to protect what you have. Remember, Cancer may be a gentle sign and influence however it is cardinal in nature, and will be pro-active if it has to be.

Look around in the world for these issues to be in the news. Matters of security and protection, those based around the family and women, ones connected with compassion and caring as well as nutrition and food. You will also find that anything connected to land use and national borders, the history and past actions will be much more influencing daily life.

Three missing Israeli youngsters are found dead as Mercury stations to go direct.

israeli-teens

Today at 13.50 UK time (GMT +1) Mercury stations to go direct and most of you out there with Mercury direct in your own charts will breathe a collective sigh of relief. Actually I have a friend of mine who has Mercury retrograde in her natal chart and the last three weeks have been fabulous for her, so just helps to prove the theory that those who were born with Mercury Rx can really benefit from it.

Mercury conjunct Menkar - The voice of the many call out.

seamonster

This connection occurs at 14.31 degrees Taurus, is active now until 15.00 UTC tomorrow.

This is a just a brief planet and star connection, but one that should not be ignored. Neptune conjunct Mercury - Open your mind

fairy tales

Today and into tomorrow, Mercury comes and makes an exact conjunction with the planet of mystery, Neptune. This pair really opens out our thought patterns and expands our minds. Intuition and imagination will be very strong and if you are a sensitive type, you may be able to feel what is going to happen before it does. I have met a few people with Mercury conjunct to Neptune in their natal chart and often it does contribute an ability to have totally incredible dreams, as if you are an actor in a real life movie. If you have this combination in your own chart, please let me know if you experience this phenomenon too.

Now Neptune has a darker more sinister side and we may fall foul of con artists, tricksters and those who deliberately want to deceive us. You would be wise to be careful over the next couple of days in exactly what you agree to. Working out fact from fiction, what is real from what is not could be very problematic. All fairy tales have a sinister bad guy, a wicked witch who is evil and horrid and that's Neptune completely summed up, it will take you on a ride of good versus evil, the promise of a beautiful dream tinged with the reality that things are not going to be all that easy after all.

This though is a lovely little aspect highlighting all wonderful ways of enjoying yourself. This combination highlights music and dance, fantasies, theatre, TV and films and creative writing, indeed all kinds of entertainment based on anything that can inspire you. This will be a great weekend for going to a gig, seeing a concert or a film at the cinema. Go out and enjoy...

Mercury Retrograde for February 2014

Mercury retrograde

it’s soon time for another round of Mercury retrograde, this time we get a dose of the quicksilver planet moving in reverse between 6th and 28th February in particular affecting 3 degrees Pisces and 18 degrees Aquarius, the degrees where it stations. We are now well into the shadow zone and you may have noticed an increased amount of technical and computer breakdowns as Mercury was in Aquarius within the hit zone I mentioned above.

Mercury conjunct Canopus - Lines of communication are broken

Argo

This aspect is valid today 11th June and into tomorrow 12th June

Mercury as it starts to slow is in a very interesting part of the sky. Yesterday and today it is in connection with Sirius and now it connects with the fixed star Canopus, the star in the constellation Carinae, the Keel, which forms a part of the great southern ship of the skies, the Argo.

The keel of a ship is the part which determines the direction it will go in. Canopus as suggests from this description was known as the navigator by the Egyptians. Canopus is also connected to the concept of time as well as leadership in a dominant manner and having the control to destroy anything that one creates.

Now with Mercury making the connection the issues of communication comes again to the fore. Canopus and Mercury can put forward strong ideas and opinions, but the nature of this star is quite harsh and controls on what is allowed to be said. This leads me to think of controls on the press, on the media and of censorship in general.

There are two big stories going around which I have touched on recently and both again are implicated by this conjunction. The Edward Snowden story is an obvious one which I looked at briefly on my Facebook page yesterday. We had the controversial announcement and revelations about US authorities intercepting and storing internet and phone information as Mercury approached Sirius and now we have the controls clamped down again as the truth gets out.

In Turkey, the protestations over the way the country is governed are continuing and now the police and authorities are back on the streets this morning with a heavy handed approach trying to take back parts of Istanbul and Ankara which were taken over by protesters. I also here that Facebook and other social media may be banned in that country to stop the flow of information, absolutely in line with this planet star connection. We have aggressive Mars starting to approach the stars of Taurus now, and this may inflame things a little more as direct action becomes more prevalent.

Mercury conjunct Sirius - An important announcement

canis major 1

This aspect is valid today 10th June and tomorrow 11th June 2013

Mercury today connects with one of the great stars of the skies, Sirius, the dog Star sitting in the constellation of Canis Major. Sirius is the the brightest star in the heavens, often known as the "Shining One" of the "Scorcher", the one who burns.

This star has always had a reputation for being associated with linking humble and selfless personal action which suddenly propels one into the spotlight, or doing something sacred and worthy in making a sacrifice for the betterment of people around you. If you think of the "15 minutes of fame" that many people aspire to, then this star could well be the reason for the phrase as it promises a chance to be in the spotlight like the proverbial shooting star before it quickly fades into the night sky.

Mercury's connection brings the quality of communication and language to this star, be it written or spoken and maybe something which is said now will hit the headlines around the world, or the ramifications of an agreement will have repercussions and a very significant effect. This is the start of the retrograde shadow for Mercury and it is possible that anything said or agreed now will come into effect when Mercury stations and turns direct on this spot on 21st July...
