As you’ll know if you read Solaris Astrology on a regular basis, I put a warning out on 1st April this year that the Ebola Virus outbreak in Guinea could be the start of something rather nasty, you can read my initial article here - Deadly Ebola virus spreading in West Africa at a rapid rate. I traced back the history of the virus to the initial reported cases, there were two simultaneous ones actually in Africa but the current crisis is connected to the Yambuku River outbreak discovered on 26th August 1976 in Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of Congo. The virus is seems is harvested in fruit bats, which in that part of the world is a local delicacy. Now the virus rampaging through several countries in Western Africa has seen it’s first confirmed case in the the United States. The Astrology to say the least is worrying.
I’ll take you back once more to to initial chart and your will see a marked mini grand trine, a trine from Saturn to Neptune with Pluto sitting right at the midpoint of the two, focusing all that energy. Neptune rules illness and weakness, Saturn rules limitation and loss and together these two planet in combination have always been connected to medical issues. It stands to reason, Saturn is a sign of structure and strength, but Neptune dissolves it and breaks it down. Neptune is also illusive and uncontrollable, there are no limits connected to Neptune and being the slower moving planet of the two and thus more powerful, Neptune hols sway over Saturn. Put Pluto the planet of destruction and death at the midpoint of these two and it was always going to be a dangerous signature for this disease.
This year as far back as the start of January, Pluto has been sitting at guess where? The midpoint of Saturn and Neptune and even today Pluto is within 2 degrees of this midpoint. For the past 10 months, this hidden away connection has allowed the Ebola to flourish. There is another powerful link up too. I obviously have the date for the first Ebola discovery but I don’t have the time, so the progressed chart becomes rather useful in these circumstances. Firstly if you plot the progressed chart against the original outbreak, then you can see that the progressed Sun is now conjunct to the natal and progressed Pluto, right at that nasty focus point, lighting it up like a beacon. It’s no surprise then that the disease has taken hold this time around, is there?
Now how does this tie into the United States and the countries of Western Africa? Very easily. Let’s plot this progressed Ebola chart against the countries involved and see what we find. Firstly I look at Guinea the nation where the outbreak this time around took hold. Putting the progressed chart against the Guinea independence chart of 2nd Oct 1958, you’ll see that Sun Pluto signature of the Ebola chart opposing the Guinea Midheaven and square to the Ascendant. the progressed Saturn sits on the Guinea Uranus opposing the natal Chiron, the wounded healer in the 8th house of death and inevitable change. Not a nice picture and a lot of suffering going on. On Guinea’s natal chart, the Sun is at 8.20 degrees Libra, Midheaven at 12 Aries and Ascendant at 14 Cancer. All three are being attacked by squares and oppositions by destructive Pluto at 11 Capricorn and Uranus now at 14 Aries. It’s not a pretty picture.
Sierra Leone gained independence from the United Kingdom at midnight on 27th April 1961 and it’s chart has a very tricky Pluto Chiron opposition with Pluto at 5.38 degrees Virgo and Chiron at 5.47 degrees Pisces, that’s a very close opposition which is being impacted by the planet of weakness, Neptune now moving at 5.21 Pisces. Neptune is exactly activating that opposition as well as making a conjunction with the detrimental South Node. Sierra Leone is very vulnerable now and this is another country with a cardinal Ascendant at 16 degrees Capricorn. Pluto will be moving closer and closer to it in the next year transiting in the 12th house of hospitals and suffering. The Pluto transit is particularly nasty for Sierra Leone because natal Pluto is very debilitated by the opposition of Chiron in the natal chart. I always think that a damaged planet in the natal will always cause more trouble as a transiting one as it moves around the natal chart than a well aspected one does.
It is too early to say if the United States will be truly affected by Ebola, but the arrival of it in the US from a man who travelled from the country of Liberia, adjacent to both Sierra Leone and Guinea is worrying because of the ease he entered the US and also because he was there fully 10 days before the virus was picked up. The real problem with Ebola is the incubation period which can last up to 2-3 weeks, so you may have it but you don’t know about it. It’s a secret killer, one that destroys from within and very, very Plutonian in this respect. It is very possible this individual made contact with a lot of people during that week and a half and trying to locate them all will be a hellish job. In Astrological terms, it is difficult to pinpoint if the Ebola will really affect the US in a big way as we don’t have a verified exact US natal chart to work from but by looking at the charts we do have one can make a few conclusions and a few educated guesses.
On the Sagittarian rising 4th July 1776 US chart, the progressed Sun Pluto conjunction at 10 Libra is square to the US natal Sun at 13 Cancer and remember the transiting Saturn Neptune midpoint sits at 12.58 Capricorn and Pluto is at 11 degrees Capricorn both directly opposing the US Sun. This opposition is just as pronounced if I use Peter Novak’s Liberty chart for 2nd July 1776 – 17.31.30 in Philadelphia, the one for the agreement of the declaration of independence with the US Sun at 11 degrees Cancer. Using the 15th November 1777 (12.46 – York, Pennsylvania) chart of the signing of the Articles of the Confederation, that troublesome Pluto at 10 degrees Libra on the Ebola chart is square to US Nodal axis at 9.36 degrees Cancer/Capricorn. Wherever you look there are connections between the Ebola virus and whichever US chart you want to examine, and because of this I think that America is very vulnerable.
The world watches, and waits and hopes that this horrible disease does not take hold in the next few months, as if it does we may have a global crisis on our hands that may overshadow what is going on in the Middle East. Born out of the cardinal cross of the spring I warned back then that a small outbreak in Guinea could completely spin out of control because of the way that the world is now connected by air travel and by the hidden secret nature of Ebola, the way it creeps up on you without you realising it. Yes it can be controlled and cured, but the world health agencies and the giant medical companies will have to act fast and now to create vaccines in case it spreads any further.
Maybe it’s time we took Astrology a little more seriously folks, for if I, a humble little Astrologer in the UK can predict this whole situation so accurately so many months ago, why did the rest of the world and all the medical experts and world leaders sit around doing nothing until now?
