We are on the cusp of a Solar Eclipse occurring on Thursday 15th February at 21.04 GMT in the sign of Aquarius at 27.07 degrees. This is the twin eclipse to the one that occurred on 21st August last year occurring almost opposite to it in the skies. This one is just a partial eclipse and will not the full on spectacular that plunged much of America into complete darkness, however in Astrology an eclipse be it total or partial is a very potent event, and it will highlight matters to do with the wider community, the collective, the group and the shared goals we have in humanity, rather than the last Solar eclipse in Leo that put all of the onus on the individual.
Any eclipse in Aquarius will bring up Aquarian themes over the next 6 months. Aquarius and the planet that rules it Uranus is a rebellious, non-conforming influence, and we should see quite a battle in the next few months between those who want the world to progress and to integrate more and more, versus those who are more conservative and protectionist in nature. This eclipse in Aquarius goes very much against the strongest planetary influence that we find ourselves under with Saturn in it's home sign of Capricorn. There has always been a battle between the progressives and the traditionalists in life, and it is interesting to note that before Uranus was discovered, Saturn was originally the ruler of Aquarius. You may understand from this therefore that contrary to modern Astrological belief Saturn is not so adverse to moving things on, however it does so in a much more structured way than Uranus does it. Uranus and Aquarius can literally throw the baby out with the bathwater, impelling us to take radical and unconventional action at a moment's notice. Sometimes this approach pays off, and sometimes it fails miserably. One thing though that Uranus and Aquarius does have is a logical and calculated approach, and the Uranian individual will often disrupt on purpose to shake things up, rather than doing things without reason. Look at Donald Trump who's Sun is conjunct to Uranus, as this is how he acts and governs. This is something to look out for in the months ahead. This eclipse in general does want us all to move forwards as one world and to reject division and separatism, and I believe that circumstances out of our control will occur to make sure that we all do.
Every eclipse has certain extra characteristics about it apart from the sign that it lands in, and this one is no exception. To start with this is a South Node Eclipse, as the transiting South Node is also in Aquarius close by to the eclipse degree. Any South Node eclipse will see an existing situation in your life drifting away. It could be a job that starts to go wrong, a relationship that becomes impossible to continue, a friendship that becomes less relevant to you, a financial commitment that comes to an end or maybe you will graduate from a period of study. The South Node sees a completion of a situation, and this eclipse will wrap up a chapter of your life, so that a new one can begin.
The eclipse forms three aspects. The first is a conjunction to Mercury, however this is not an unusual occurrence as Mercury is always in relatively close proximity to the Sun. It also forms a sextile to Uranus and a wider square aspect to Jupiter. The sextile to Uranus from the eclipse indicates that the next 6 months will indeed be progressive ones in all Uranian pursuits, such as in science, technology, space and exploration of the universe, the internet and in social media too. You may also see communities standing up for what they want too. Uranus often frees us from where we are being oppressed or held up, so look at your own life and work out what you need to do or get rid of to make your path easier and less restricted, and then act upon it. In a wider sense communities will also look to what is holding them back, and they will collectively rise up to rid themselves of repression.
The eclipse in making a square to Jupiter brings an optimism to the next six months, but one that can get out of hand unless we are careful. Expansion will be the name of the game, trying to build for the future, however there is a risk taking element that we will have to be wary of. Jupiter is in Scorpio and this brings an “all in” attitude. There is no hedging our bets with Jupiter in Scorpio, we risk everything or we risk nothing, and you may find some spectacular success stories along with some complete falls from grace in the months ahead. Just make sure that if you risk everything, you do it with the odds stacked in your own favour!! Jupiter is the planet of the higher law, of faith, higher education and of knowledge, global trade, internationalism and of diversity too. I can see and envisage situations where the law or law maker's decisions will be challenged with Mercury conjunct to the eclipse square to Jupiter. I also think that how we treat those of a different faith, nationality or culture than ourselves will be a big focus point as we move through 2018. This aspect will be stoking up a bubble of speculative growth, and you know what happens when bubbles burst. Whether Saturn in Capricorn can keep the lid on the potential growth that I see, and prevent it from getting out of hand is open to debate in my mind. Saturn does make a sextile to Venus, the money planet and so this suggests that our values and thus currency markets may hold steady as we move forward.
The other big aspect occurring at this Solar Eclipse sees Mars in Sagittarius forming a square to Neptune and Venus in conjunction in Pisces. This aspect is already starting to have an effect as the Oxfam scandal starts to break. Venus and Neptune together connect the planet of money to the planet of sacrifice and suffering, it is a charitable connection and Mars making the square is exposing sexual secrets and abuse that has been hidden for years. Similar scandals may also break in the sports world, in medical services, films, TV and entertainment and official charges against the likes of Weinstein and Spacey will almost certainly come. I have a feeling that international action (Mars inn Sagittarius) may be taken in the months ahead against money laundering and financial scams (Venus conjunct Neptune in Pisces), matters that have been pushed under the carpet for years on end. Other scandals linked to other charities and the abuse of funds may also come out, and there could be investigations into how our charitable contributions are managed. This aspect is one of sex scandals and illicit relationships, as well as spiritual anger and aggression. The spectre of terrorism has been less prominent in last part of 2017 into 2018, but this signature aspect unfortunately may see a rise of aggression from terror groups again or crazed spiritually motivated individuals. Mars in Sagittarius square Neptune to me also suggests law breaking and fraud, and someone prominent breaking the rules may hog the headlines in the first half of this year.
So what parts of the globe will be in focus in the next six months? The eclipse line on the Ascendant/Descendant axis avoids most of the landmasses on earth, and only Eastern Brazil, through the centre of Australia and Indonesia will be affected. The Midheaven/Imum Coeli line of the eclipse however is more prominent, and the eclipse line will affect Eastern Africa, Yemen, Saudi Arabia including Riyadh, Iraq, western Iran and the Caucuses so expect some government instability or changes in these areas of the world.
The other prominent planets on the angles over any part of the earth can also prove troublesome, so here is a list of places that may see some action in the months ahead.
Mars is the planet of action, aggression, fire and anger is hitting the India and Pakistan border and far Western China including Tibet.
Saturn is the planet of restriction disappointment and loss and difficult or tragic situations may affect far Western Mexico, the western states of the US, including Nevada, Oregon and Washington. Las Vegas and Seattle get direct hits. Saturn will also hit Burma (Myanmar) and central China. Saturn will also pass over Western Africa including Cote D'Ivoire, Mali and Morocco, Spain, Eastern Ireland and Northern Ireland affecting Madrid, Dublin and Belfast. The administrations in these cities I think will start to pull their countries closer together, after the splits of the past.
Uranus is the planet of revolution, shocks and disruption. It will be affecting Cameroon, again Mali, Libya, the Balkans, Western Ukraine and Belarus and the Baltic States of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The city of St Petersburg in Russia will also be hit, and if you wish to see opposition to Putin rising up, here may be a place where the locals start to get angry with the status quo. Uranus may also stir up trouble in Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Cuba and up into the US affecting the Carolinas up through Virginia and New York state, running quite close to Philadelphia, Washington DC and New York. Toronto in Canada also gets a direct hit and all these areas may be “accident prone” in the months ahead. In the East, Uranus will affect Indonesia, Thailand, and Central China and these regions may also either be unstable, progressive or liable to shocks and change.
