I have been promising to write this article for quite a while now and many of my readers have been asking for it too, so today I finally get out the crystal ball and try and predict what may happen as these two most influential of planets connect up in the month of January 2020 and beyond.

Vladimir Putin – Sitting pretty as the rest of the world is in panic mode
Hi everyone. With all the shenanigans going on in Washington D.C. I decided to look across the globe and examine one leader on earth who has complete mastery of his situation, Vladimir Putin. Right now he must be sitting in his office at the Kremlin with a large vodka in one hand, feet up on the desk with a big smile on his face. Why? Transiting lucky, fortunate Jupiter is sitting right on his Sun for the next 2 and a half months!!!
Putin is a Sun Libran, born on 7th October 1952 in Saint Petersburg, Russia (we think 09.30 am) and his Sun at 13.55 Libra has retrograde Jupiter slowing to a stop on his Sun in June and then turning direct, so it will be staying a long time on the 13-14 degree point. That's like winning the lottery several times over, and it tends to shield you from all the other more nasty aspects swirling around, as you have fortune on your side.
By this I mean that transiting Saturn is conjunct to his natal Mars and he should be frustrated, irritated and blocked in his actions now, but do we see that? Nope, the plan to destabilise the US is going swimmingly. Indeed transiting Neptune is inconjunct to his Sun and ordinarily that is a nasty aspect that weakens you and forces you to accept situations that are not initially in your best interest personally, or it makes you lethargic and/or gullible. Do we see that either? Nope, indeed the cards seem to be falling on the table beautifully for him. Anyone domestically who does potentially gets in the way, such as Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny recently, gets arrested, trumped up charges are put against them, they are then convicted and packed off to sunny Siberia for a few months. Simples!! Note - only those readers in the UK will get that joke.
Putin's natal chart although in doubt as it's only A rated seems reasonable to me, with Pluto conjunct to his kingly Leo Midheaven and Scorpio on his Ascendant, perfect for an ex KBG boss come President dabbling in diplomatic games, secrets and espionage, and when he wants to be he can be brutally efficient in wielding the power at his disposal.
His natal Sun born within the stars of Corvus the crow is now conjunct to the main star in that constellation, Algorab, the terrorist star. As such there is a cunning, sneaky and very manipulative side to him. His natal Mercury is exactly on the stars Spica in Virgo and also conjunct Arcturus in Bootes, so he has an exceptional mind, he's clever, inventive, sharp and never behind the eight ball. He's one smart cookie, and he's always one step ahead too. Dealing and playing with Trump and the fledgling US administration must be a piece of cake, especially when they are so open to divulge pretty much anything to them. As the old saying goes, keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer. Even I know that one.
Elsewhere on his chart, Sun conjunct Saturn, Neptune and Mercury shows him to be serious and he will have an element of the preacher about him, it suggests the kind of person who runs things with an iron fist and yet is able to drift in and out remaining illusive and untouchable, like the powerful religious leader who has all the answers. All these planets are in Libra, the ultimate socialist sign, the sign of equality. The problem with Libra is that the motivation is that everything has to be fair for me, and not always for everyone else. That's always been the problem with this sign and with the communist system in general, human selfishness gets in the way of true egalitarianism.
These planets square to Uranus indicate someone who takes a different approach but his fixed in his ways, the radical who seems to play like the insider. He'll be cold, calculating and rather unemotional with his Moon in information rich Gemini, always in the know and keeping abreast of every situation. I have Moon in Gemini too, and I know that your moods do fluctuate with this position, friendly one minute and difficult the next. That will keep those around him off guard as to what he really needs.
Venus in his 1st house in controlling Scorpio shows vanity and a need to show off a bit, and we've seen that with him swimming across lakes, posing bare chested on horses and playing ice hockey in which allegedly a few weeks ago he scored a very impressive 9 goals according to the Russian media. Mars in Sagittarius is very sporting, adventurous and loves the outdoor life, and Jupiter in Taurus wants all the trappings of a comfortable existence, and with the hand on the tiller of the Russian super tanker, Putin has that side of things nicely sorted.
I hate to say it, but the poker player in the Kremlin holds all the aces at the moment...

Blasts on the Russian Metro kills 10 victims
Why can't we all live in peace? Too much to ask I guess. This post follows on very much from yesterday's one focusing on Moscow which I featured on my Facebook page. At 14.40 this afternoon local time a bomb went off on a train between two Metro stations. At the moment it is reported that there are at least 10 fatalities and many more have been injured.

Malaysian Airlines MH17 – Blasted out of the sky at 33,000 feet. Looking at the Astrology of this awful tragedy.
When I heard the news I could not believe it. Another Malaysia Airlines airplane lost. This time though there was no doubt to what happened to it. Flight MH017 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was blown out the sky by a BUK Russian ground to air missile fired from Eastern Ukraine killing all 298 people on board. The incident has been condemned by every world leader, and questions will now be asked of why this appalling tragedy happened…

The Grand Cardinal Cross of April 2014 - Fireworks are coming…
The year 2014 has already been a very interesting one with three consecutive periods of retrograde planets coming along to dominate the early months. First up was Venus throughout January, then Mercury in February and now Mars that turned retrograde at the start of March and it will remain moving backwards for the next two and a half months. Also in the past month, Pluto Jupiter and Uranus have been in a tight t-square formation and whilst this was forming the Ukraine revolution took place and Russia sensing a power vacuum in her smaller neighbour dived in to take effective control of the region of Crimea. In the next month this t-square with the aid of Mars will turn into a grand cardinal cross. This formation will dominate the spring of 2014 and will drive the agendas of the world. How is it going to affect us. I give some thoughts on the matter…
Aries Ingress Charts for 2014 - Crimea and Russia
As you may be aware, tomorrow we start the new Astrological year as the Sun moves out of the last sign in the zodiac, Pisces and into Aries. Looking at the moment of the Sun's ingress into Aries can give a taster for what may happen for any place on earth for the coming three months until the Cancer ingress heralding the start of summer. Obviously the one place on earth where there is most instability is the Crimea at the moment as Russia is claiming control over the (former) Ukrainian region.

Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 – Threats a real and present danger
In a couple of weeks time the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia get underway with the opening ceremony. If you look on a map, Sochi is not so far from the very unstable region of Chechnya and I would imagine that the authorities in Russia are very aware of the potential problems that this could pose. This was brought into very sharp focus as the Slovenian Olympic Association were sent a terrorist threat just today. Now I took the liberty of having a look at the moment for the start of the Games (the official website has a countdown clock) and I would suggest that the Russian authorities stay very much on their mettle.

Pussy Riot girls released in Moscow.
The last two remaining jailed members of Pussy Riot, Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova have been released as a goodwill gesture earlier than expected - Yekaterina Samutsevich the 3rd member of the group was released in October. They were imprisoned for performing a protest song in a Moscow church calling for Russian president Vladimir Putin to be thrown out of office.

Russia steals a march on Washington over Syrian crisis.
In the diplomatic wrangling over what to do with Assad and Syria, Russia has seemingly taken the lead in the crisis by offering a diplomatic solution in getting Syria to give up all their chemical weapons, outflanking Barack Obama’s initial threat of military action. This has made Obama and America look weak and very ineffective as they backtracked from their stated position and handed the initiative to Russia and Vladimir Putin. In Moscow, they must be toasting the vodka in a diplomatic job well done, where as the recriminations in Washington and the blame games will start. Russia’s power and control of the situation can easily be seen if you have a look at transiting planets against their chart.

Pussy Riot trial divides Russia and enrages the music world.
In the UK we understand the power of protest and the the right for free speech, especially in artistic forms. Tell me another country in the world which would allow an excerpt from the punk anarchist anthem “God Save the Queen” by the Sex Pistols to be played at the open ceremony of their own Olympic Games with the serving monarch of the day in attendance? I bet you can’t. In Russia, the authorities are not so enamoured by such behaviour. In a trial that is catching world headlines, Maria Alyokhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and Yekaterina Samutsevich all members of the female Punk protest group “Pussy Riot” have just been found guilty of hooliganism, after performing an anti Putin protest song in Moscow's Christ the Saviour cathedral in February and have been sentenced to 2 years in jail. As ever there is an astrological story behind the events in Moscow right now, and glimpsing ahead, this could be a seminal moment in the future of modern Russia.

Russia – A bear with a sore head in 2012
The modern post-communist Russia was born out of the wave of revolution of the late 80’s and early 90’s as the Soviet Bloc and Iron Curtain were dismantled country by country, piece by piece. The people had had enough of the old staid authoritarian rule and wanted some Western freedoms, and goods in the shops. When I was in Eastern Europe around the same time, I heard all the stories of people queuing for tomatoes, just because there had just been a delivery to the state run grocery store. You never knew when you would have the chance to purchase them again. Under the leadership of Mikhail Gorbachev whose policy of Glasnost loosened the cords and the revolutionary passion of Boris Yeltsin who rose to power sweeping away the old guard, Russia was swept into a new capitalist era, where the old communists became the new capitalists and the poor stayed, well poor as they always were. At least under the new philosophy there were more things to buy and people grumbled but were a bit more content. The rise of Vladimir Putin however has seen the country lurch back to many of the old ways of thinking. The free press which burst up in 1991 like spring flowers after a deep freeze winter has had an iron grip placed on it again, and the latest round of elections were tainted by alleged massive vote rigging by Putin’s United Russia party. Protests are planned again this February as exceptionally harsh winter bites in Eastern Europe. The natives are restless and the Russian bear is once again waking this time with a rather sore head.

Eclipse Watch – An upcoming look at the next solar eclipse on 25th November 2011
I have always been fascinated by eclipses, maybe because I am closely associated with the Sun being a Sun sign Leo by birth. The Solaris name I use came to me on the day of a solar eclipse, and the effects of them and the ramifications of the totality point is something I study with great interest. The last eclipse of 1st July caused havoc for many across the world and as I have mentioned on this blog, the effects of that cardinal cross eclipse are still being felt.

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl Air Crash – Russian ice hockey team victim of a “Moon Wobble”
Today just after 16.00, one of the most devastating in a series of recent Russian air crashes occurred. An airliner on a charter flight from the Russian city of Yaroslavl bound for Minsk in Belorussia carrying the city’s ice hockey team failed to lift off properly after take-off and hit a riverbank in a ball of flames, pretty much wiping out in one go the whole team, and plunging a nation into tears of sadness. Ice hockey is the national sport in Russia, however this tragedy will be felt worldwide, as the team had several star international players and a Canadian coach.
The heavens have been rather fraught recently, based around the Pluto Uranus square. At the approximate time of the crash, we found destructive Pluto in the first house and Uranus, the planet of accidents in the 3rd house of transportation. There were also several t-squares in operation. There was a rather difficult Moon Mars Saturn t-square with Saturn at the point in the 9th house of long distance travel and yet more crucially I think a batch of t-squares based around a North Node Ascendant conjunction.
Many years ago, an astrologer and mathematician called Carl Payne Tobey did a series of charts of plotting the position of the planets when major disasters happened including fire, weather related incidents & major accidents with loss of life etc. He found that many of these incidents occurred when the Nodal Axis was conjunct the North or South Node, but not exclusively so. He also found a big correlation between these type of events when the sun was forming a t-square to the Nodal Axis – at 90 degrees. He calculated that if the Sun was within 5 degrees either side of square to the Nodal axis, there was a far increased chance of a loss of life through an unfortunate incident. Tobey nicknamed this position the “Moon Wobble”.
I don’t usually include squares to the nodal axis on my natal charts, however on looking at this particular chart, I noticed that the possibility of a square inducing this accident existed. The Sun today was at 14 Virgo, just within that 5 degree range of the North Node at 19 Sagittarius. I am not saying that there will always be a disaster during a Moon Wobble, but if the other planetary factors are also stressful and appear in certain areas of the chart, then the potential really does exist.
At this particular Moon Wobble there were also a couple of other interesting factors. The Sun was found in the 8th house, Scorpio’s house where death can be found. Venus also in the 8th was almost exactly square to the Nodal Axis as well. Taurus ruled by Venus sat on the cusp of the 5th house of sport, indicating that this was an area where unfortunate happenings could occur. Pluto was closely quindecile the South Node, a focus of destructive energy impacting on the Nodal Axis and Pluto’s sign Scorpio was found on the cusp of the 11th house of team affairs. Finally Neptune was making an opposition to Mercury again in the 8th house, and a close quindecile to the Sun. Mercury traditionally rules travel by air, and Neptune’s influence may well have disrupted the flight. Neptune quindecile the Sun often shows the effect of being or feeling powerless to act. It seems that the accident by all reports was caused by some catastrophic failure. Interesting too that the plane ended up burning on the water’s edge, surely the influence of Neptune at work in some way?
It may be worthwhile exploring if future Moon Wobbles coincide with future accidents or related incidents. For the moment however, the Russian people will mourn the loss of one of their foremost hockey teams. Hopefully it will precipitate the tightening the air safety rules in a country that desperately needs some.
